I finally downloaded the pictures from my cell phone of my Feb. '05 Ecuadorian Real Estate Tour.  This is by no means all the properties viewed nor is the picture quality the best (being from a cell phone camera).  However, this should give you some idea of what the country looks like as well as the type of rural real estate available and local construction techniques.  Ecuador is a very beautiful country and these pictures don't do it justice to say the least. The tour was in two parts:  The first leg of the trip was in the northern middle interior of Ecuador high (10,000+ ft) in the Andes in the Ibarra region;  The second leg was in the northern middle coast region south of Manta.

It should be noted that the whether was unseasonably wet and rainy during the tour, particularly on the coast so the ocean view pictures don't reflect the typically bright and sunny climate.  That said, the pictures of just one of the dozen properties toured is worth showing here, and these aren't the greatest images either, sorry.  However, I have some photos of a little fishing village, Puerto Lopez, that one might find interest.

Northern Portion

Landscape on the left was typical of northern portion of the tour in the Ibarra region.  The steeper portions of the terrain would be wooded, whereas the less steep areas would be under cultivation and/or pasture.

While driving to the Ibarra region we crossed the equator from south to north and the tourist stop shown on the right is a landmark depicting the actual location of the equator.

This was one of our first stops.  This is a small residential development being built for an international cliental.  Located about a mile from the nearest village, this development just started construct and these homes are 'Custom'.  The internal pictures on the right are of the nearly finished house found in the middle picture on the left.

Each house is on a separate lot about 1/4 acre in size, maybe larger.  I think the homes were approximately 1300 sq. ft.  The general construct is block and plaster type.  All the wood is local, as well as is the labor.

This is an eight plus acre hacienda with a large OLD (100 years) house and stables.  If I remember correctly, the house is over 2500 sq. ft.  It's located about a mile from the Pan-American Highway and several miles from Ibarra.

Here's an attempt at piecing together a panoramic view of a valley leading to San Pablo Lake (far left), viewed from a rest stop along our way to the lake.

Here are a couple of vacant lake front lots on San Pablo Lake.  One lot is about three and a half acres and the other is about one and a quarter acres.

Note the narrow dirt access road in the lower right picture.  We drove right next to several block houses with a pig or two having to get out of our way as we when by.  Very rustic and rural - very quaint!

Coastal Portion

This is an approximately 1800 sq. ft. house on a beach front property.  It has a larger enclosed compound in the rear and a larger patio and deck facing the ocean.  Typical brick constructed house on a two and a quarter acre lot.

Lower right picture shows three vacant two and a half acre beach front lots for sale just adjacent to this property.

These pictures are of Puerto Lopez and were taken from the roof top of our hotel, Hotel Pacific, which is just across the street (dirt road actually) from the beach.  Unfortunately these picture don't show much.

Needless to say, this is just a sleepy little fishing village with all dirt roads (except for the main highway several blocks back from the beach).  I must say, I was surprised how nice the hotel is though.
